Bravo going ahead with premiere of ‘Housewives’

The Bravo network revealed Wednesday it is going to continue with the Labor Day season premiere of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” in spite of the suicide of a cast member’s husband.
Short interviews with cast members about the suicide of Russell Armstrong will air before the premiere, although Armstrong’s widow, Taylor — one of the “Real Housewives” — was not a participant. The network will also show several suicide prevention public service announcements in the middle of the show, stated Frances Berwick, Bravo Media president.
Armstrong hung himself on Aug. 15. He did not leave note. The couple’s marital problems was a story line in the reality show’s first season. In the second season premiere, filmed a few months ago, Taylor Armstrong revealed to the other housewives that she and her husband were attending therapy.
Berwick stated that the season’s new episodes are currently being edited. She didn’t say exactly what was being done, but it will likely take the attention off the marital problems.
Berwick wasn’t currently available to talk about the network’s thoughts behind airing the series. Networks have taken different approaches when cast members made bad headlines: VH1 cancelled 2 series that Ryan Jenkins was involved in after he was charged with murdering his ex-wife and then committed suicide. The series “Celebrity Rehab” has continued after 2 of its cast members died after their editions aired.
Bravo also stated that it is working with the Entertainment Industries Council to raise awareness about suicide prevention.
