Syrian Sovereignty Must not be Violated

According to the Chinese official media, the country’s vice foreign minister Zhai Jun said that the world should not violate the sovereignty of Syria after he held talks with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Meqdad, in the Syrian capital, Damascus. Zhai said that they have exchanged their views on possible ways to strengthen their relationship and cooperation at a time when Syria is facing intense international pressure. The government of China has twice allied with the Russian government in vetoing the resolution of the United Nations Security Council condemning the deadly crack down by the regime of Bashar al-Assad on the 11-month old popular uprising against him in the country.
He was quoted by the official Syrian Arab news agency as saying that the unity, independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country must not be violated by any of the parties and the international community. He added that Chine hopes that the national dialogue in the country and reforms will be instrumental in moving Syria forward. Zhai before leaving for Damascus on Thursday said that China had opposed any armed intervention and imposed regime change in Syria. Russia and China have faced a flurry of criticism for blocking any action by the United Nations Security Council, including from the Arab states as well with whom China enjoys quite cordial relations.
Zhai said that they would stress the Syrian government and all the political parties of the country completely and immediately bring an end to all acts of violence in the country and restore normalcy and stability as soon as possible. The official Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying that China condemns all sort of violence against innocent civilians, and does not give approval to any armed intervention or the so-called imposition of a new regime in the country.
