US Urges Protection of Human Rights in Libya

On Friday the White House stressed the new rulers in Libya to protect the rights and freedom of the people of Libya on the first anniversary of the start of the uprising against the Libyan dictator Muammer Qadhafi. The spokesman President Barack Obama, said that the protection of the rights of the Libyan citizens will be facilitating the preservation of the unity of purpose that defined the Libyan revolution. At the same time it also encouraged the Libyan rebels to work with the new government for the establishment of reconciliation, peace and stability in the country. The first anniversary of the revolution was celebrated by Libyans with fireworks and slogans, however the new rulers of the country have restrained from any official celebrations as an indication of respect for those thousands of people that were killed in the violent uprising against the ex-Libyan leader Muammer Qadhafi. Qadhafi was captured and brutally killed by a violent mob on October 20, 2011.
Jay Carney the spokesman of the White House said in a statement that the Libyan people through their great courage and sacrifice, along with the support of the international community and the United States. This support was instrumental in helping the people of Libya to defeat the violent and brutal Libyan regime and win freedom. He added further that today the people of Libya are enjoying new liberties, having debates on the introduction of new laws, expressing themselves freely, preparation for the first transparent elections in the history of the country, and joining the civil society organizations.
Carney said that the natural wealth of Libya can finally be invested in the future of the Libyan people.
