The news of the match-fixing scandal by Pakistani cricket players has spread in the world of cricket like a forest fire.
Pakistan’s crime investigation agency, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), will send a team to Great Britain this week to probe corruption allegations against some of the country’s cricket players, a senior official said on Tuesday.
Thus far, an investigation by Scotland Yard has uncovered many valuables from the rooms of certain Pakistani players, including handsome amounts of money, watches, and other valuables. And the investigation is continuing.
Pakistan’s tour to England has no more charm and thrill after this match- fixing scandal. Some of the top Pakistani cricket players have been accused of being involved in this scandal, including team captain, Salman Butt.
Investigations by British police and the International Cricket Council (ICC) are already underway.
The President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zadari, and Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yousuf Raza Gillani, have both expressed their disappointment at the allegations. The Sports Minister of Pakistan said that if any one of the players is found guilty he will be banned from the sport for life.
The President of the International Cricket Council, Sharad Pawar, said that the ICC will take ruthless actions, if any player is found to be guilty.
“Justice needs to be done, but also swiftly to stop this dragging on,” said Justin Vaughan, Cricket Chief Executive of New Zealand.
Cricket fans all over the world have voiced concerns and debated this hot topic regarding how to go about investigating the matter and punishing wrongdoers, but surprisingly no comment has been made from the Indian cricket board. The spokesman of the BCCI, Mr. Rajiv Shukla, said only that; “the Indian Cricket board has got nothing to do with this issue and this matter now belongs to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).”
