USA Gives Explanation for NATO Strikes inside Pakistan, but they are not acceptable!
Reported by: Soha CRWE Newswire Middle East correspondent
After much hue and cry in Pakistan over the NATO’s strike inside Pakistan the USA has finally given an explanation. The US military chief Admiral Mike Mullen has told the Pakistani military leadership that the attacks were due to some ‘communication breakdown’.
The USA did not give any response till three days after committing the strikes inside Pakistan. It was only when Pakistan threatened, that if such strikes continue it will be forced to take appropriate measures, that the USA came up with an explanation.
Pakistan has always maintained that the USA only had the target to conduct military strikes against terrorists inside Afghanistan, and this mandate doesn’t extend beyond the border.
One of the spokesmen of the Pentagon, Col Dave Lapan said that strikes occurred because probably the ISAF forces were not able to notify the Pakistani officers about the strike.
Pakistan has said that it was conducting its own investigations to find out whether NATO helicopters fired weapons from inside Afghanistan or violated the Pakistani airspace.
The ISAF had said that the NATO helicopters went inside Pakistan while pursuing the militants from Afghanistan.
No matter what is the case this incident has added fuel to the fire in Pakistan. Anti-US sentiments are already at its peak due to controversial verdict against Dr. Aafia Siddiqi.
People on the street have been questioning is that the reward for USA’s most close ally in the war against terror.
The USA drone strikes in Pakistan have already made the people suspicious of the real US intentions as so far these attacks have mostly claimed the lives of innocent civilians. Which have angered the population.
The recent attacks of NATO inside Pakistan are being viewed as part of USA’s hidden agenda of destabilizing Pakistan. All the analysts have been questioning the timing of this strike. It is a time when the country is battling one of the worst floods in its history.
Besides this there have been lots of rumors about a possible change in government. The Media every day speculates the possible date of the fall of the Pakistani government. Even alternate set-ups are being proposed. Some are presenting a Bangladesh inspired model and others technocrats led government.
Now the recent airstrikes are being considered a step forward in the USA agenda of starting a civil war in Pakistan. It is noteworthy that such attacks infuriate the tribals who then take the revenge of their loved ones from the state of Pakistan. This then leads to anarchy.
If the scenario is correct then the USA is surely playing a dangerous game as it will also have to suffer if any such thing happens in Pakistan.
The need of the hour is that the USA should take Pakistan, its closest ally in war on terror, into confidence. The emphasis should be on hitting the terrorists rather than creating difficulties for one another.
