The Chief of Hezbollah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has said that the international tribunal investigating the assassination of the late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri was violating every law in Lebanon. He called for a boycott of the tribunal.

Nasrallah’s comments came a day after the tribunal, in an incident, termed as a flagrant violation by Hezbollah, went into a gynecology clinic and asked for the files of the patients. A very inappropriate act!

A team of investigators had entered the clinic in the southern suburb of Lebanon and demanded the archives of a number of female patients.

The team entered the Iman Charara’s clinic and sparked a major dispute with women present there. Women waiting there including an emergency case were annoyed at this act of the investigators. The eyewitnesses have said that the investigators stayed for a long time at the clinic and held a meeting with the doctors.

Nasrallah said that this was the incident that actually pushed him to deliver the speech. He was of the view that now the question was of honor and dignity, declaring that the situation has now reached a sensitive and a very dangerous point. He said that the tribunal was involved in the collection of information regarding Hezbollah that was beyond the goal of serving the investigation.

Nasrallah questioned what the tribunal could find from the women’s files. The clinic is often visited by the wives and daughters of Hezbollah officials.The Hezbollah chief has called for a boycott of this tribunal. He urged all Lebanese to halt cooperation with them. He added that any further cooperation will be considered an attack against the resistance. He was of the view that everything the tribunal obtains ultimately reaches the hands of the Israelis and the Americans.

Tensions have been high in Lebanon since the tribunal investigating Hariri’s murder has said that it will be talking to the Hezbollah’s officials as well. Hezbollah has always said that Israel was involved in the murder of the Rafiq Hariri. But the tribunal investigating the assassination has termed the evidence of Hezbollah against Israel as insufficient.

Hezbollah is now a political power in Lebanon with covert Iranian support.

The recent visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad was labeled as an open declaration of the strong relations between the group and Iran. Meanwhile Saudi Arabia invited Syrian President Bashar-al-Assad to discuss the situation in Lebanon. Lebanon it seems has now become a battleground where the regional powers are trying to display their influence.
