Las Vegas, NV December 30, 2010 (CRWENEWSWIRE) - The latest research reflected that cancer survival rates in the UK is comparatively lower than those in other developed countries. An international study compared and evaluated survival rates of cancer patients in Canada, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the UK (excluding Scotland).
The Lancet journal report illustrated the gap between the worst and best performers are contracting. However, the UK is still lagging behind, according to the experts. The study looks at cancer patients, one and five years after diagnosis, a total of 2.4 million people suffering from four major cancers including bowel, lung, breast and ovarian.
In Australia, Canada and Sweden the survival rates were highest, whereas Norway was depicted as intermediate. But as more people are surviving cancer than ever before, the paces and frequencies were lowest in the UK and Denmark. Researchers strained though that the breach among the UK and the best performers are declining. Survival rates for breast cancer particularly in the UK have progressed and at the same time as the researchers will examine the causes of the differences in future papers, it seems late diagnosis of cancer remains a problem.
