World no 2, Novak Djokovic, from Serbia had a comfortable victory against his British opponent, Andy Murray, in the final of Australian Open 2011.
Djokovic, who removed defending champion and world no 2, Roger Federer, in his semi final encounter in straight sets, managed a very easy victory, which was a one sided affair and Murray looked out of sorts from the very start.
Andy Murray qualified for the Grand Slams on two previous occasions and each time he was facing an overwhelming favorite, Roger Federer, but luckily Djokovic took out his nemesis in the semi finals and he was at par with the world no 2 and was looking forward to taking his first Grand Slam tournament. The final only took 2 hours and 39 minutes and like previous two finals, Murray failed to win a single set.
Both Djokovic and Murray held on to their serves in the first set and it went to a score of 5-4 when Djokovic broke Murray’s first serve to take the first set 6-4. From then onwards a continuous downward trend was observe in the performance of British player and he lost next two sets very comprehensively, with a score line of 6-2 and 6-3.
Djokovic in a post match conference said that it has been a fantastic tournament for him and will motivate him for the next season as winning a Grand Slam in the start of the season is the best start any player can ask for.
