Dow Chemical Co.
Kuwait said Sunday that it is terminating plans for its $17.4 billion joint venture with Dow Chemical Co. (DOW, $15.32, -$3.60, -19.03%) because of political opposition. The move could raise questions over Dow's planned $15.3 billion acquisition of specialty chemical maker Rohm & Haas Co. (ROH, $53.34, -$10.22, -16.08%), which reportedly was to be partly funded by the money received from Kuwait. Rohm & Haas, a specialty chemical maker, noted in a brief statement Monday that the completion of the K-Dow deal wasn't a requirement of its takeover.
