The "Ghost Car," a 1939 Pontiac Deluxe Six was first displayed at the New York World's Fair and later on at the Smithsonian Institution, sold on Saturday for $308,000.
The original build cost was $25,000, the Pontiac with a Plexiglas body was the first transparent car ever built in America. Another was built the next year, but its whereabouts are unknown.

According to a new report from a U.S. watchdog, a U.S. government contractor in Iraq overcharged the Pentagon a whopping amount of money for inexpensive items. The recent findings reflect a control switch that normally cost $7, mysteriously became a $900 expense.
Stuart W. Bowen JR, U.S. Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, said review found that Anham, LLC, based in suburban Washington, allowed its subcontractors in Iraq to charge also $3,000 for a $100 circuit breaker, and $80 for a piece of plumbing equipment worth $1.41.
As a result, Bowen's inspectors are looking to review all Anham contracts with the U.S. government

Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that Pakistan was ready to sort out its fractured relationship with the US, adding that the move had the backing of the armed forces. US authorities have said that an American army soldier was arrested after police found him in a motel room near Fort Hood, Texas, with possible bomb-making materials. Eric Vasys, FBI Special Agent, said that the soldier, who was absent without leave from Fort Campbell, Kentucky was being held in a jail in the city of Killeen, Texas near Fort Hood, on an unrelated child pornography charge.
The culprit was identified as Naser Jason Abdo, 21, originally from Dallas area. He had disappeared from Fort Campbell over the July 4 weekend, Fort Campbell base spokesman Bob Jenkins said. The spelling of his name was initially released by the FBI as

The forces in Syria have turned the screw in their clampdown on a democracy movement, arresting more than 100 people including two prominent activists, rights groups said, on the eve of more mass rallies. Syrian security forces armed with machine guns and other weapons arrived in the town of Qatana, 25 kilometers south of Damascus, on pickup trucks and carried out the arrests before searching for more protesters.
